I really liked this place. It's fast, pretty reasonably priced and flavorful. A friend of mine found it to be too greasy, which I understand but it's some of the better Chinese food I've had, close to where I work and their buffet is impressive. It's limited but everything is pretty good. One thing I can say is that it's better to get there later if possible because it seems to take a bit of time heating up. I had a recent trip here though that was unfortunate. The waitress that's usually there (and very good!!) wasn't and we had to ask for menus, water, boxes and I even had to go up front and tell the cashier what we had because we nevergot a check. Even worse, the usually friendly owner almost seemed reluctant to give me a box when I asked for it and walked it back to the table to make sure we did, in fact, get food off of the menu. Whatever, but I assumed there would be some apology for the total lack of service. In the end, bad service happens and it was super busy. Unfortunately, my date got food poisoning and was sick for a few days (from the menu item, not the buffet) following the visit. It was good while it lasted but I haven't been back sense and probably won't be.

This restaurant is under a new management and new cooks. The food here is no longer tasty as it was before.

I have given this place 2 chances. We are super desperate for good Chinese food in this area! This past experience was horrible and we had to drive alllll the way back to get the order right. Our order: Cashew Chicken General Tsos (which came WITHOUT chicken at first) Steamed dumplings My cashew chicken had a clear, thick sauce....not a normal cashew brown sauce and there was maybe 3 slices of chicken total. The fried rice was just saturated with soy sauce, no veggies or anything. I love potstickers pretty much anywhere, but these were burned on the bottom and ice cold in the center. I am really confused by the good reviews!

Excellent Chinese food - fresh and full of flavor - The buffet during lunch has many offerings and the sweet and sour soup is delicious. Tops are also the beef fried rice (I get mine extra 'spicy') and recently the curry 'Singapore' fried rice. Recommend to anyone - The owner is a great guy and will help you decide on a dish if you need .

My first experience with Chinese food was Shrimp Fried Rice at Hong Kong Inn. While I've broadened my horizons since then, their Shrimp Fried Rice has always held a special place with me. Then they closed. :( I didn't even realize until today reading a random review online that Yummy Wok is run by a family member of the former owners of Hong Kong Inn. And they use many of the same recipes...including for the Shrimp Fried Rice. I never thought I'd have it again, and it turns out it's right around the corner. My rating might be as much nostagia as taste, but this is a great place. The owner (Yum--hence the name) is extremely outgoing and loves to chat up anybody that walks in. Service is good and quick. And I'm sure someday I'll have something besides Shrimp Fried Rice and find out the rest of the food is really good as well.

Not sure how this place is highly rated. Had it once, I ordered generals chicken. Sauce really wasn't cooked with the chicken. It was soggy and stringy. Don't ever plan on coming back.

I've heard a lot of positive things regarding Yummy Wok so I was excited to give it a try. I opted for the lunch buffet in order to sample different dishes. First of all, I realize that buffets are typically all similar....you can't expect perfection but I've found several that get the job done well. This place is not one of them. Everything essentially tasted the same....salty soy flavor without much else. The chow mein looked fantastic but it tasted....off. I couldn't even eat it and I'm a huge fan typically. The egg rolls were also inedible...did they roll them in cinnamon first because that's what it seemed like. I will say the egg drop soup was pretty good. To top it off, the young girl who was working was cold and seemed irritated by my requests (soup to go container, sweet and sour sauce). She can keep her attitude and I'll go somewhere else for lunch.

The food is really good and the portions are large, however the service is horrible. My daughter and I were never offered a refill even when the drinks were gone before the food arrived. The food does not come out at the same time - I was halfway finished with my cashew chicken when one kids meal came out, the second kids meal came out when we were ready to leave - luckily the kids meal portion was large (as mentioned before) or my child would have gone hungry!!

The family atmosphere jumps right at you. Came in when there was nobody in this place. The owner came out to greet us multiple times during our meal and their daughter ensured that we were taken care of. They have huge plates so expect to take some food home, when they box your food up they always ask if you want more portions. Great family establishment, the food was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. Best Chinese I've had in Grand Rapids. Oh yeah the egg rolls are on point here, tastes like none I've ever had before.

Place is very laid back and good to go with friends and family. Service is however slow and not a quick in and out place. Food is good overall.

I've been raving about this place since I went the other day. I've never had crab rangoon so perfect and the chicken in my fried rice actually had a distinct flavor, not just bland cooked chicken. My friend had the curry shrimp and said it was delicious, too. Pros: not-greasy fried rice, chicken with a flavor, the perfect balance of crispy to soft on the crab rangoon, very reasonably priced Cons: the restaurant is about 12 feet wide, so not a lot of room for really large groups

This is definatly the place to go. A few changes over the years but still wonderful and worth heading to. I live in California and make it a point to go here anytime I'm in town, nothing like this on the west cost. The egg rolls are amazing and we take them home with us to have until the next time we are in town. Odd name but amazing food. Definatly stop and try it if you are out and about. Just an FYI if you liked Hong Kong Inn back in the day stop in here and give it a try, It was the family recipes. Stop in and smile.

We ordered carry out on a Sunday night and the service was prompt and good. I had the Hawaiian chicken and asked for "the Hawaiian chicken with tofu" and that is exactly what I got; tofu and chicken. The chicken was dark meat, which I don't care for personally in my chinese but I ate the tofu and that was just fine. The mushrooms in the fish were tasty and I enjoyed the pineapple, but it was very sweet and a little one note- no garlic, ginger, or acid. I would eat it again probably, but it was just adequate- nothing fabulous. My wife had the Singapore street noodles and those were delicious. There was chicken, shrimp and Chinese sausage in it and a flavorful sort of yellow curry sauce with the perfect amount of spice. The noodles were perfectly done and not too soggy. The vegetable spring roll was really bad- no flavor except a bad oil taste. I wouldn't recommend getting that! All in all this place is right by my house and it is decent, so I think I'll go again.

What had once been a 5 star place to eat, has dropped so far so fast. The food is still semi-decent, but lacks the quality and luster of last year. In addition, the service and management (at least in the evenings!) is poor to horrible. I order often from this place, and today when I went there with a coupon I was bluntly told "we don't do that anymore." and when I asked what I was supposed to do with the restaurant.com coupons I had purchase for what had been til-now my favorite chinese food, I was given an uncaring shrug. The previous owner (God rest his soul) would NEVER treat his customers like that. So one experience has turned five-stars into two-stars... and lost them a customer. I'll give Jade Garden down the street my business - more expensive, but they *like* their customers.

Ordered takeout from here due to the high ratings however I was highly disappointed. I got a schezwan chicken and a sesame chicken and both had no flavor. The schezwan chicken was pretty much chicken in brown flavorless sauce and the sesame was just watered down sweet red sauce. I might say I'm highly disappointed. The service was good however (over the phone) but other than that I doubt I'll be trying anything else.

The service was great and they were very welcoming. I look forward to going back. I got the pepper steak and it was so delicious. The fried rice along side of it was just as good. The environment was interesting because they have mirrors on the wall which makes the place look much bigger. It was a very chill place and great for having conversations in a small group.

As I was staying in a nearby hotel, I called and ordered takeout and was pleasantly surprised at the service, food, and price. While it took a little long for the delivery (about an hour), the food was piping hot when it was delivered and everything was very, very good except for the egg roll. We ordered Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Fried Rice, Curry Shrimp, and General Tso's Chicken. I was able to request the level of spiciness of the shrimp and the chicken and it was made perfectly to order. The crab rangoon was very crispy, despite the fact that it was closed up in a box and I've had soggy rangoon delivered before --- this was great! Other reviews were spot on --- the fried rice was delish! All this food for less than $50 and delivered as well! Impressive!

Was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience here. The food was fresh and quite flavorful, while the waitress did an outstanding job of lightening the average atmosphere. Food: A Service: A+ Atmosphere: B Probably my second favorite chinese spot on the south side of GR.

Best Chinese in Grand Rapids hands down. I acutally live in Los Angeles and make sure I stop in everytime in in town. Out here on the West Coast we dont have anything nearly as tasty and delicious as Yummy Wok. Last tine I was in the area I actually brought a cooler of their egg rolls home on dry ice !! And the folks there were super nice and froze the rolls in advance. What I wouldnt give to have Yummy Wok within a days drive. Until then I will continue to stuff myslef there anytime Im in West Michigan!

Great little American style Chinese take-out joint. The prices are reasonable, the food is always fresh and the customer services is always great. The hot and sour soup is out of this world!

My husband's go to meal for take out is Chinese, so we've gotten food from all the local places. Yummy wok has excellent side dishes (rice, noodles, etc.) but their meat isn't the best. Not to be gross, but I've had to spit out a couple pieces it was so stringy, fatty, or a bad piece. There are much better places to eat in the area in my opinion.

Saturday, feeling cheap, saw review, went. $6.45 Lunch Buffet w/tea 11am to 2 pm Mon thru Saturday. Beats a burger anytime! Sunday's a bit more. Plenty of choices and seasonings were good. 3 soups, 3 appetizers, Plain & seasoned rice. About 15 different dishes. From outside you cannot see the dining rm which is long and narrow but interior is simple, pleasant. Family staff is very friendly, helpful. You can order off the menu and have dishes prepared especially for you but they will be higher in price. They do have things that would be worth the extra bucks and you will probably get 2 meals unless your a rock climber or a glutton. I recommend it. Located S end of strip mall on Breton just N of 44th. NW corner. Family Fare anchors N end stripmall.

This is my second favorite Chinese place in Grand Rapids area. I was incredibly put off by the name, Yummy being in the title was a lot to wrap my head around at first, now I just know that they were being honest about what was inside. I lived nearby and decided to try it one time, and I was so glad I did, I will travel across town a few times a year to indulge now that I don't live nearby. The prices are good, crab Rangoon is great; you can choose white meat chicken and it's delicious. Not to mention the egg roll which is a secret recipe and I'm positive it has ginger in it, which is a pleasant surprise for the palette.. They aren't like any other egg roll I've tasted and I have a lot of respect for that. The owner is so nice. He is usually hanging around up front and is super friendly and talkative. I usually get my order to go so I have time to talk with him and have learned some interesting things about Chinese food in the process. Can't wait for my next visit!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
